Christmas’s contribution to music.

Well, I have been home to Cornwall to celebrate Christmas with my family, and I have now returned to Glasgow, to experiment with my toys.

This year’s Christmas yielded a few musical gifts of particular interest. Father Christmas thoughtfully provided me with my first ever tuning fork. It is amazing how one note can provide so much amusement… until my head started hurting. My Dad taught me a magic trick ‘throwing’ the sound and making it louder. Not sure I have nailed that one yet, but it might appear on hear over time.

The second present of interest comes from Lily, I friend of my grandmothers from China, and also a friend of mine. She gave me a Chinese Bamboo Flute -or Dizi – for Christmas. I have not played the flute before, only trumpet – quite different! However, this appears to be quite easy and fun to play!

I have picked up a few tunes, and I promise, I will post a nice one soon. But more to my immediate pleasure, is the discovery of the pointless skill of singing and playing the flute at the same time! This video merely demonstrates the skill. It sounds terrible, unmusical and uninteresting. However, who knows what may blossom from this? What beautiful duets may be discovered?

SO. Here it is.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Transcript of poor quality speaking:

‘In my dressing gown, in my Glasgow flat, I have learnt to sing and play the flute. It sounds horrible, but apparently is an aquired skill?!’
‘It’s a start, I only learnt to do it today!’

It’s a Shambles

If you are interested in me in any way, it is likely that you will be interested in this man. Shambles Miller. A fellow musician, song writer and singer, he has the added bonus of being a bit witty and interesting to be around. On his blog page, you may find the odd comment about polticial linguistics.

Check him out http://shamblesmiller.wordpress.com

Hello world!

Hello world indeed. I am currently in limbo, waiting to return to Uni where I can fulfil any role I please, rather than that of a child, in a house, which I appear to be currently.

Plans for this year:

Survive the long distance relationship between London and Glasgow.

Make music, write songs FREQUENTLY

Gain a practical recording system and record songs.

Liven up the Florynce and Lauryn scene (www.myspace.com/florynceandlauryn

Go to the Gym!

Eat healthily!

Get Grade 8 singing?

Hoefully, anybody who is interested in my blog will hear more about this things, with the occasional interesting fact about Vikings thrown in.

Watch this space. Im going to explode.

Florence x
