Well, I have been home to Cornwall to celebrate Christmas with my family, and I have now returned to Glasgow, to experiment with my toys.
This year’s Christmas yielded a few musical gifts of particular interest. Father Christmas thoughtfully provided me with my first ever tuning fork. It is amazing how one note can provide so much amusement… until my head started hurting. My Dad taught me a magic trick ‘throwing’ the sound and making it louder. Not sure I have nailed that one yet, but it might appear on hear over time.
The second present of interest comes from Lily, I friend of my grandmothers from China, and also a friend of mine. She gave me a Chinese Bamboo Flute -or Dizi – for Christmas. I have not played the flute before, only trumpet – quite different! However, this appears to be quite easy and fun to play!
I have picked up a few tunes, and I promise, I will post a nice one soon. But more to my immediate pleasure, is the discovery of the pointless skill of singing and playing the flute at the same time! This video merely demonstrates the skill. It sounds terrible, unmusical and uninteresting. However, who knows what may blossom from this? What beautiful duets may be discovered?
SO. Here it is.
MERRY CHRISTMAS

‘In my dressing gown, in my Glasgow flat, I have learnt to sing and play the flute. It sounds horrible, but apparently is an aquired skill?!’
‘It’s a start, I only learnt to do it today!’
